The live blog page schema was never more important than it was in 2020. Between the pandemic, election, and second impeachment, the rate of news was faster than our previous live updates template could keep up with.
As the principal designer for The Post’s live coverage, I led a comprehensive redesign of our live updates blog. We introduced new features to help readers quickly find the topics that matter to them: improved page navigation, a key updates summary box, an SMS digest for live events.

The previous live updates template was difficult to differentiate from a standard article.
Why not get the news via text? For the Tokyo Olympics, I designed an SMS update feature that allowed readers to receive a daily text digest of the day's events.
